About

Our goals

In the heart of Barrouallie, Mama’s Hands aims to address hunger at its roots, and to continue with our mothers legacy.

Our immediate goal is to provide not only ready-made meals but also essential groceries to families in need by putting the power of preparing nutritious meals into their hands. We empower families to take control of their nourishment and well-being.

Our mission

We understand that the struggle against hunger is complex. To tackle this challenge head-on, Mama’s Hands is launching an initiative to provide grocery packages to families in Barrouallie. These packages contain the essential ingredients needed to prepare wholesome meals at home. We believe, by empowering families with the tools to cook nutritious meals, we can make a lasting impact on their health and resilience.

A Legacy of Compassion

The name "Mama’s Hands" holds deep significance. Mama’s Hands was founded in honour of the Mason Family matriarch, Ouida Mason, who initially began the work of feeding the homeless in her local community. In 2015, our beloved inspiration passed away, leaving a legacy of compassion and service to the community. Today, her daughter is taking up that mantle, driven by the same passion to alleviate hunger in our community. We are operating now By self funding, volunteers and family members.

The Challenge Ahead

According to UNICEF “St-Vincent and the Grenadines is the poorest country in the Eastern Caribbean and has a poverty rate of 38% of children aged 0- 1 and 37% 10-19 live in poverty. "According to unco in 2020, according to UN population projections, there were around 26,700 young people (10-24 years) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; about 2,600 or 9% fewer than in 2010. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ poverty rate is higher than the average of 23% for the Eastern Caribbean. More specifically, more than 1 in 3 or 38% of children ages 0-17 and 37% of adolescents ages 10-19 were living in poverty, which is higher than the poverty rate for adults aged 18+ years (30%). The poverty rate for young people ages 10-24 is not available because it has yet to be calculated. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines child and adolescent poverty rates are slightly higher than the averages for the Eastern Caribbean (33% and 34% respectively).

The need for support is immense, and Mama’s Hands is faced with the challenge of bridging the gap between the resources available and the growing demand. As our community battles economic hardships, the need for nourishment becomes even more critical. We recognize that we cannot do it alone, and we invite you to join us in this noble cause.

The future

Looking ahead, Mama’s Hands envisions a brighter future. Beyond addressing immediate hunger needs; we aspire to open a learning centre that will serve as a beacon of knowledge for the children of Barrouallie. Our goal is to provide comprehensive education on nutrition, health, and well-being, empowering the younger generation to make informed choices about their bodies and futures.
